Nurse Pay Calculator

A nurse earning $48/hour works 7 PM to 7 AM with a 30-minute unpaid meal break, and earns a $6/hour night and $4/hour weekend differential. The shift is 12 hours long, but only 11.5 are paid.

1. Paid hours are the shift length minus any unpaid break. Paid breaks aren't deducted.
2. Base pay is your hourly rate × paid hours.
3. Differentials are added on top: a flat amount per hour, a percentage of your base rate per hour, or a flat amount per shift. A differential can be limited to certain hours, like 11 PM–7 AM.
4. Overtime adds a premium for hours past your daily or weekly threshold. By default, hourly differentials are blended into the rate overtime is paid on.
5. Each line is rounded to the cent and the total is their sum, so the breakdown always adds up.

• It estimates gross pay before taxes and deductions. It isn't a paycheck or take-home calculator.
• Overtime thresholds, multipliers and differentials are whatever you enter. Your employer's policy, contract or union agreement decides the real rules.
• Weekend and holiday pay apply when you turn them on for the shift; the calculator doesn't know which days your employer counts.
• Times are clock times on an ordinary day. On the two nights a year clocks change for daylight saving, an overnight shift is really an hour shorter or longer.
